Biography

De Huo is a M.S. student majoring in Computer Science at the University of Southern California. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Mechanics from Beihang University.

In summer 2021, De interned at Amazon as a full-stack Software Developer. De ever worked for Semio, a Los Angeles-based robotics company, as a Software Engineer Intern in 2020 summer. He was also a Programming Intern at Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CASIA) in 2019. Previously, he conducted research at Institute of Automation and Control, Beihang University in 2017.

He won the championship with team in Design Competition in Program of Aerospace Design United Courses in 2017 and won The Second Prize of the “Feng Ru Cup” Competition of Innovation in 2017 and in 2018 respectively.

Besides solid foundation of mathematics and probability theory, he is familiar with C/C++, Java, JavaScript, HTML/CSS, as well as many popular libraries and tools. Interdisciplinary internships and projects in computer vision, robotics, UAV, deep learning and web design make him proficient in tackling engineering problems.

Experience

Software Engineer Intern

Amazon.com, Inc.

May 2021 – Aug 2021 Seattle, WA

Responsibilities include:

  • Migrated and separated a JSP + Spring web application into two newly-constructed end-to-end services.
  • Built the frontend in TypeScript with React/Katal, Redux and Saga on S3 and delivered static assets through CloudFront.
  • Built the middle tier as an ARest service with Guice in Java on HEX-AWS, intended for fetching dependency metadata from DynamoDB and for propagating rectified requests & responses.
  • Established two complete repository-to-prod deployment pipelines and integrated the fully-functional services with backend.
  • Unit-tested all code with line coverage over 90% by using Jest and Enzyme for front end and Mockito for middle tier.

Software Engineer Intern

Semio

May 2020 – Aug 2020 Los Angeles, CA

Responsibilities include:

  • Built a multi-layer ROS map with regions and waypoints visualized in Arora based on TypeScript and React.
  • Tracked and visualized body part motion trajectory in decaying pattern with Dynamic-Reconfiguration in ROS.
  • Processed THÖR dataset to display multiple moving persons’ 3D point cloud and head orientation in real time.
  • Reproduced part work of Bayesian Estimator for Partial Trajectory Alignment to train a model for behavior recognition.

Software Engineer Intern

National Laboratory of Pattern Recognition, CASIA

Mar 2019 – Jul 2019 Beijing

Responsibilities include:

  • Implemented C++ inference process of neural networks and improved code efficiency by 40% through Mobile AI Compute Engine.
  • Deployed neural networks on mobile ARM platforms such as RK3399, Raspberry Pi and other SoCs.
  • Developed a multi-thread fast video stabilization algorithm based on Kalman Filter and Gaussian Filter (Avg FPS: 149).
  • Contrasted multiple human face detection algorithms’ performance (Dlib, libfacedetection, Arcsoft SDK, etc.) on ARMs.

Research Assistant

Institute of Automation and Control, Beihang University

Mar 2019 – Jul 2019 Beijing, China

Responsibilities include:

  • Researched on omni-directional copters to decouple the relation between multi-copters’ posture and movement.
  • Proposed collectively a novel flight control algorithm based on quarternion theory and 8 spatial vectors.
  • Produced an indoor Octocopter with cubic carbon fiber frame and 8 aerial brushless motors capable of reverse rotation.
  • Achieved highly-precise indoor localization and long-time spot hovering without floating by using Pozyx platform.
